Court arraigns man over alleged theft of Ondo varsity property

A 25-year-old man, Sikiru Imoru, has been arraigned before an Akungba-Akoko Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over the alleged theft of iron materials belonging to the state-owned Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

The defendant was brought before Magistrate K.A. Kolawole on a three-count charge bordering on alleged stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Kehinde Emmanuel, told the court that the offence was committed in December 2024 at Akunmi Quarters, Akungba-Akoko, within the court’s jurisdiction.

Emmanuel alleged that the defendant unlawfully gained access to the university premises and stole iron materials valued at N500,000.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offence contravenes Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006. When the charges were read, Imoru pleaded not guilty.

In his ruling, Magistrate Kolawole admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in like sum, warning that he would be remanded in custody if he failed to meet the bail conditions.

The magistrate subsequently adjourned the case until August 5, 2026, for hearing.
