Court dismisses Achimugu’s suit against EFCC, rejects N10bn damages claim

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by Aisha Achimugu, chief executive officer of Felak Concept Group, challenging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s search of her residence and seizure of her property.
Justice Musa Liman dismissed the suit on Monday, holding that the EFCC was empowered to search Achimugu’s residence following intelligence alleging her involvement in criminal activities, according to a report by TheCable newspaper.
Achimugu had instituted the action, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/466/2026, over the commission’s search of her home and seizure of her cars, jewellery and other belongings.
She sought N10 billion in damages, describing the operation as an invasion of her privacy.
However, the court found no grounds to prevent the anti-graft agency from performing its statutory responsibilities and rejected her claim for compensation.
Justice Liman described the suit as lacking merit, characterising it as “frivolous and brought in bad faith”.
Reacting to the ruling, Emenike Mgbemele, counsel to the EFCC, said the judgement served the interest of justice.
Mgbemele also described the suit as an attempt to waste the court’s time.
