Court remands 7 suspects in Osun for alleged campaign billboards vandalism

An Osun State magistrates’ court, sitting in Osogbo, has ordered that seven suspected cultists be remanded in correctional centre for allegedly threatening the peace of the state.

The suspects were said to belong to unlawful societies known as ‘Emir Boys and Aye confraternity’.

The accused persons were; Azeez Abibu (29), Musbau Nurudeen (23), Wasiu Sodiq (28), Ganiyu Lekan (27), Azeez Sikiru (26), Soliu Mohammed (20), and Ibrahim Mohammed (21).

The Prosecutor, Olusegun Elisha alleged that the accused damaged billboards belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilesa with dangerous weapons. 

He stated that the defendants committed the offence on the 18th of June 2022, with others still at large. 

The offences, according to the Prosecutor were contrary to, and punishable under Section 516, 70, 64(a), 517, 451, 249(d), 517 and 80 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

They were charged on fifteen counts ranging from conspiracy, malicious damage, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, unlawful shooting, among others. 

Presiding Magistrate, Olusola Aluko ordered the defendants to be remanded in Ilesa correctional centre due to the magnitude of the offences committed.

He then adjourned the case till 1st of August 2022 for hearing.
