Court rules against Lawan, affirms Machina as APC’s Yobe North Senatorial candidate

A Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu has ordered the All Progressives Congress (APC) to submit the name of Bashir Shariff Machina as the authentic candidate for Yobe North Senatorial District after affirming the 28th May 2022 primary election conducted by the party.

Justice Fadimatu Murtala, in a judgement delivered in Damaturu on Wednesday, also nullified the parallel primary election of 9th June 2022 that produced President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan as the senatorial candidate for the zone.

The presiding judge directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept and publish Machina’s name accordingly.

Lawan lost the presidential ticket of APC to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

After the lost, attempt was made by his to regain the senatorial ticket of the party for Yobe north after Machina had won an earlier primary conducted on May 28.

The 9th June primary, which purportedly produced Lawan as candidate was not recognized by INEC, even as Machina refused to step down for the senate president.

Lawan’s counsel, Kolawale Balogun told newsmen that his client would be appropriately advised on the next move.
