Court sentences man to community service over theft in Ondo

An Akure Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Obafemi Olajide to three days of community service for stealing eight iron pipes valued at N25,000.
Olajide was prosecuted by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as the Amotekun Corps, following his arrest over the theft.
The prosecution, led by O.F. Baba, told the court that Olajide committed the offence around 6:30 p.m. on August 5, 2026, along Igbatoro Road in Akure.
Baba said the eight iron pipes belonged to Taiwo Olaleye, adding that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. I, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
When the charge was read to him, Olajide pleaded guilty and admitted committing the offence before the court.
Following his plea, the prosecution urged the court to convict him, while his lawyer, O.S. Adefehinti, appealed for leniency.
Adefehinti described Olajide as a first-time offender who had shown remorse, adding that none of the stolen items was recovered from him.
In his judgment, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni convicted Olajide and ordered him to perform community service for three working days, citing his guilty plea, remorse and status as a first-time offender.
