The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has announced the approval of 3,927 new Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) personnel for recruitment in the 2024/2025 period.
Edun said it would address the staffing needs to enhance the agency’s operational efficiency.
The Minister announced this in Lagos at the 61st meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Board, where he praised the agency for generating approximately ₦15 trillion in revenue by September 2024.
Edun attributed the NCS’s revenue success to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, which have been central to strengthening Nigeria’s financial stability.
The ₦15 trillion generated by the NCS significantly contributes to the government’s ability to fund essential social and infrastructural projects. As part of the ₦48 trillion “budget of restoration” for 2025, the government is targeting ₦35 trillion in revenue, with the remainder to be financed through loans, grants, and borrowing.
Minister Edun praised the NCS team, including Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for their continued commitment to driving economic growth and supporting the government’s broader fiscal consolidation strategy.
The Minister emphasized that the NCS’s performance is a key component of efforts to achieve macroeconomic stability and long-term sustainable development.
