Although Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha has publicly denied reports of his interest in contesting for the presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), support for the Super Eagles legend continues to grow across Nigeria.
The most recent endorsement comes from internationally acclaimed music artist Davido, who has formally declared his backing for Okocha’s potential candidacy in the ongoing campaign for the NFF leadership.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Davido appealed to his global fanbase to rally behind Okocha, describing him as the ideal candidate to lead Nigerian football forward. “For the love and respect you all have for me, I urge every fan to support Jay-Jay. Make your vote count,” Davido emphasized.
He further disclosed that the campaign aims to secure at least one million votes in favor of Okocha, encouraging supporters to demonstrate their commitment by commenting “Jay-Jay Okocha for NFF Chairman” on the official campaign post.
This high-profile endorsement has significantly boosted Okocha’s campaign momentum, with support coming from celebrities, football icons, and fans both within Nigeria and internationally.
Distinguished football personalities, including former Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o, as well as football administrators, have also publicly encouraged the former Fenerbahce and Bolton Wanderers midfielder to pursue the NFF presidency.
The football community now waits to see whether Okocha, who has maintained he has not declared his candidacy, will reconsider and officially enter the race.
