Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has promised that his upcoming sixth studio album will have a “very African” sound, as he revealed what fans should expect from the project he subtly announced on his birthday in November last year.
The singer made this known during a recent interview on BBC 1Xtra, stating that the album will be rooted in African sounds as he shifts focus from Western music influences.
“This part of my career… I’ve performed everywhere, sold out every arena, been at all the award shows. I’ve been to three Grammys in the last three years. Now, I want to go back home, I want to go back to Africa. Even the music I’m recording now is very, very Davido—African. I’m not focused on Western sounds. This one that’s coming next is very African,” he said.
He further explained that after years of building a global presence, he is now satisfied with his achievements and intends to return to his roots by making Africa-focused music, in contrast to his earlier blend of international influences.
Recall that Davido’s fifth studio album, 5ive, released in 2025, was deeply rooted in Afrobeats, resonating with Nigerian identity while also appealing to a broader audience.
The artiste also acknowledged the support he receives from South Africans, claiming that “80 per cent” of them know him and love his music.
Over the years, Davido has collaborated with several South African artistes, including Mafikizolo and DJ Maphorisa, among others, and has received multiple certifications from the South African music industry.
