Declare me winner of Ekiti guber election, Segun Oni tells tribunal

Candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Ekiti State Segun Oni has asked the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in the state to declare him the winner of the June 18 election in the state.
Oni submitted his petition at the tribunal on Thursday.
He was accompanied to the secretariat of the tribunal by his legal team and SDP state Chairman and chieftains to submit the over 1,000-page petition.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress winner of the election.
Oyebanji polled 187,057 votes to defeat Oni who scored 82,209 votes to come second among the 16 candidates that participated in the election.
Speaking with journalists after submitting his petition, Oni said he was challenging the election to defend the sanctity of the system.
“I’m here to submit my petition in accordance with the law and we are doing this to defend the sanctity of the system. I am challenging the election result because I believe that I won.”
