Delta governor’s aide demands VDM’s arrest over alleged court recording
By Folashade Olorunfemi –
The Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, Ossai Ovie Success, has called for the arrest and prosecution of controversial content creator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, over the alleged release of an unauthorised recording linked to a court case involving Afrobeats singer Peter Okoye of the defunct P-Square group.
Ovie made the call in an Instagram post on Monday, saying he had begun legal action against the content creator. He also disclosed that he had filed a formal petition with the court and contacted relevant authorities.
The government official argued that his position was not based on personal interest but on the need to protect the integrity of the courtroom.
“Courtrooms are places of justice, not content studios. The dignity of the court and the right to fair hearing of all parties involved must be respected. VeryDarkMan will and must be arrested and prosecuted for this illegal act. No one is above the law. Not because of followers, not because of clout,” he said.
He premised his position on three key legal grounds, arguing that court proceedings could not be recorded or broadcast without the express permission of the court.
Ovie also described the alleged act as contempt of court under Nigerian law and a violation of court rules and practice directions.
He further expressed concern that the judiciary could be dragged into what he described as a “content and social media circus”, warning that such conduct could undermine the dignity of legal proceedings and the right to a fair hearing.
“We must defend the rule of law and the integrity of our courts,” he wrote, signing off the post with his full name.
