Despite beating Ghana, Falcons still have work to do — Coach Madugu

Super Falcons head coach, Justin Madugu, says the team still has areas to improve despite their convincing 3-1 victory over Ghana’s Black Queens in a friendly match played in Casablanca on Sunday.

Goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo, Asisat Oshoala, and captain Rasheedat Ajibade sealed the win for the Falcons in the closed-door game held at Ziaida Palace Benslimane field.

Madugu said the game provided an opportunity to assess the full squad and build better cohesion, teamwork, and combinations ahead of the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

“It will always be work in progress, but we are focused on our achievable target of Mission X. The girls are ready and showing great hunger for victory, and the team spirit is very high,” he said.

The coach noted that the Falcons are looking forward to their opening WAFCON game against Tunisia on Sunday, adding that the team is determined to start strong.

Madugu has enjoyed a successful run with the Falcons, leading them past Ethiopia in the Olympic qualifiers and securing WAFCON qualification after defeating Cape Verde.

He also recalled notable past performances, including back-to-back wins over Algeria in friendlies and holding France to a narrow win during a match in France last year.

“We will continue to work on our weak areas. By the time of our first match, we will be ready,” Madugu assured.
