Despite Morocco defeat, BUA chairman pledges $500,000 to Super Eagles

Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has pledged to donate $500,000 to the Super Eagles despite their semi-final loss to Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Nigeria on Wednesday crashed out of the tournament after losing 4–2 on penalties to Morocco following a goalless draw after 120 minutes. Penalty misses by Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi proved decisive in the shoot-out.
Before the encounter, Rabiu had promised to reward the Super Eagles with $500,000 if they defeated Morocco, with an additional $50,000 for every goal scored during the match.
However, in a post on X after the defeat, the businessman said he would still honour the pledge, describing the donation as a token of appreciation for the team’s effort and commitment.
“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch,” Rabiu said.
He added that although the desired result was not achieved, the players’ performance and unity had made Nigerians proud, stressing that their spirit and passion deserved recognition.
Nigeria will now face Egypt in the third-place match on Saturday as they battle for the bronze medal.
