DIG Egbunike, who headed SIP on Abba Kyari slumps, dies in office

Joseph Obiajulu Egbunike, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department is dead.
Egbunike, a PhD holder, reportedly slumped and died in his office at Area 10 Garki, Abuja on Tuesday after undergoing medical tests.
He was the head of the Special Investigation Panel constituted by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, to investigate the suspended head of the Intelligence Response Team, Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari, over money laundering allegations against him by popular fraudster, Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi.
Egbunike, from Anambra State, holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Accounting degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as well as a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons), B.L., a Masters in International Law and Diplomacy and a PhD in Criminology.
Meanwhile the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has described the late Egbunike as a dedicated and seasoned police officer.
IGP Baba said this in a statement signed by Acting Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday.
“DIG Egbunike was a dedicated and seasoned police officer who served the nation in various capacities including as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Accounts and Budget. An officer with finesse and commitment to intellectual development and was instrumental to the achievements of the giant strides within the Police architecture.
“The Inspector-General of Police hereby condoles with the immediate family, relatives, and friends of the deceased DIG who passed away in active service of his fatherland and prays for the repose of his soul,” Adejobi said in the statement.
