The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, on Friday hosted a delegation from the Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation (NDSF), led by its President, Alhaji Dagbo Suleiman Saka, along with representatives from various states.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the NSC Chairman to understand the challenges faced by the Federation and the broader special sports community.
Mallam Dikko assured the delegation of the Commission’s commitment to supporting deaf sports and creating an inclusive platform for athletes with special needs.

“I congratulate you on your dedication to pursuing your passion despite the challenges. Your determination and self-belief are commendable. With increased collaboration, we can create shared opportunities and progress for everyone involved,” he stated.
He emphasized that the NSC is committed to all aspects of sports, ensuring equal opportunities for men, women, and persons with disabilities.
“We are here for sports in general. Sports is for everyone—men, women, and people with disabilities. We do not show preferences, and we will work to address your immediate challenges as soon as possible,” he assured.
Dikko highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to supporting people with disabilities, noting the appointment of a Special Adviser on Disability Matters as an indication of the President’s dedication to inclusion.
“The President is keen on giving everyone an opportunity. His appointment of a Special Adviser on Disability Matters shows his commitment, and we are aligning with that vision. Our engagement with you is part of this mandate,” he added.
The NSC Chairman stated that the Commission had made budgetary provisions to enhance para sports by supplying necessary equipment and kits.
“We are not just working to expand the sport; we are also creating a platform for athletes to thrive. This initiative will not only boost participation but also generate employment opportunities,” he explained.
He commended the Federation for its efforts in international competitions, where Nigerian athletes have won medals and elevated the country’s global reputation.
Dikko urged the NDSF to organize more grassroots competitions across states and submit their annual programs to the Commission for better coordination.
“I want you to know that my Director-General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, is a strong supporter of para sports. In his private capacity, he has contributed significantly to its growth. In fact, he once contested for the presidency of the Para Federation. Now that he is the DG of the NSC, you can consider this place your home,” he concluded.
