Dikko unveils NSC’s plans to revamp decaying infrastructure

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has announced plans to establish Nigeria’s first Sports Infrastructure Development Management Board.

Speaking during a television interview, Dikko explained that the creation of the new board is part of the commission’s efforts to address the deterioration of sports infrastructure across the country.

He further noted that the initiative aims to shift the focus of Nigerian sports from merely participating in competitions to achieving greater productivity.

According to him, this transformation will involve repositioning the sector to contribute significantly to the national GDP by implementing a concession and licensing model for sports facilities to enhance revenue generation.

As part of the plans, Dikko revealed that new stadiums would be constructed in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country.

In addition, the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja will serve as the pilot project for the commission’s new revenue-generation model.

The initiative, Dikko stated, is part of a broader strategy to develop and sustain sports infrastructure in Nigeria through targeted investments and private sector collaboration.
