Do2dtun, Animashaun clash over Headies’ move to Canada

By Damilola Akinwale –

Nigerian media personality Do2dtun has responded to Headies organiser Ayo Animashaun after he suggested that the former’s criticism of the awards was driven by a personal grudge rather than genuine concerns.

The dispute began hours after Animashaun faulted Nigerian artistes for overlooking local awards while aspiring to win Grammys on the global stage. In response, Do2dtun questioned the decision to hold the Headies abroad, writing: “Have you ever seen them take the Grammys out of America before? Let’s start there”.

Responding to the on-air personality, Animashaun questioned his intentions, describing his actions as hypocritical. He claimed Do2dtun’s criticism was retaliation for his inability to help him secure a US visa through the Headies.

“You criticise D Headies 4 goin abroad, yet slide into my DM asking me 2 help U attend Bcuz U want a visa. When I can’t help, U bcom even more bitter & criticise. So, is it really about Headies, or UR personal interests? Hypocrisy at its finest! Awards U didn’t attend in Naija,” he said.

Animashaun added, “Are you sure this has nothing to do with the fact that I couldn’t help when you asked me to help you secure visa to the US using The Headies as an excuse? You have my number, you can ask me questions directly”.

In a sharp response, Do2dtun dismissed the claims, insisting that he did not need such assistance. He clarified that his request to Animashaun concerned a personal ordeal involving his children and that figures in the entertainment industry, including Ubi Franklin, had approached the Headies founder on his behalf.

Do2dtun maintained that his support for the Headies over the years had been genuine and that he spoke as a culture enthusiast. He criticised Animashaun for bringing his personal issues into the dispute and accused him of using his access and influence as a weapon.

The dispute comes amid preparations for the 18th edition of the Headies, which was initially scheduled to hold in Toronto, Canada, on October 23, 2026. The event was recently postponed to April 10 and 11, 2027.
