Don’t destabilize Southwest with reckless comments, Osun PDP warns Ganduje

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has issued a warning to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, urging him to refrain from making provocative statements that could destabilize the Southwest region.

Ganduje allegedly made comments at a political gathering in Ondo State, promising that the APC would use any means necessary to capture the Southwest.

In a statement on Monday, Osun PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, condemned Ganduje’s remarks, describing them as a blatant disregard for the Electoral Act, the Nigerian Constitution, and citizens’ rights to freely choose their leaders.

Bisi also criticized Ganduje’s political record, pointing to his failure to secure his home state of Kano for the APC, attributing it to what he described as a disastrous tenure as governor.

He urged Ganduje to learn from political history and avoid making uninformed statements that may appeal to party members but risk inflaming regional tensions.

The PDP stressed that the people of Osun will decide their leadership at the polls and warned that Ganduje’s reckless comments could lead to unrest in an already fragile country grappling with ethnic distrust and economic challenges.

“While President Bola Tinubu is contending with the depressed state of the nation’s economy, Ganduje should avoid compounding the situation by promoting election rigging, especially in the Southwest. Such actions are akin to stepping on a dangerous cobra’s tail,” Bisi cautioned.

He added, “If Ganduje failed to incite violence in Kano, where the APC was rejected due to his harrowing leadership, he should be prepared to face similar outcomes in other states where the APC has failed the electorate.”

Bisi also referred to the 2022 Osun governorship election, where the APC lost after similar inflammatory remarks. “In Osun, we are familiar with such unstatesmanlike comments. In 2022, after his predecessor openly encouraged APC thugs to invade and rig the election, the highly intelligent people of Osun responded by voting aggressively against the then-APC candidate, Gboyega Oyetola. The same fate awaits the APC in Osun State,” Bisi concluded.
