Duke promises N300 petrol under PRP government if elected in 2027
Donald Duke, presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has promised to reduce the price of petrol to about N300 per litre if elected president in 2027.
Duke, a former governor of Cross River State, made the pledge on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.
He said reducing the cost of petrol would be a major priority of his administration because of the fuel’s impact on transportation, businesses and overall economic productivity.
Asked what he considered a realistic pump price for petrol under his administration, Duke said, “Try and bring it to about N300.”
The PRP candidate argued that affordable and readily available fuel was essential to improving the productivity of Nigerians and supporting economic activities across the country.
“I’ve said several times that the function of government is to ensure the productivity of their citizens within a safe and orderly environment,” he said.
“Fuel drives your economy. It should be available. It should be affordable.”
Duke said government should focus on creating an environment where Nigerians could work, transport goods and services and run their businesses without being subjected to excessive energy costs.
