Early morning fire razes six-room apartment in Ibadan

An early morning fire on Tuesday destroyed no fewer than six rooms in a private residential building at Akinsoji Zone, Ogbere Moradeyo, in the Oremeji area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Ibadan.
According to Akinwande, the agency received a distress call around 5:55 a.m. from a resident identified as Mr. Kayode. Firefighters, led by Chief Fire Superintendent Adesina Olusoji, were promptly dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the six-room building was already engulfed in flames. Our officers responded swiftly and successfully prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining structures,” he said.
He noted that the fire was eventually brought under control through the combined efforts of the Oyo State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.
While no casualties were recorded, the property suffered significant damage. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a cigarette stub carelessly discarded by one of the occupants, which ignited nearby combustible materials.
Akinwande urged residents across the state to install fire extinguishers in their homes and take basic fire safety precautions to manage emergencies before they escalate.
