Governor suspends commissioners, permanent secretaries over failure to attend official function

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has suspended 87 senior government officials for failing to attend a key official event, signaling a strong stance against indiscipline and absenteeism in the state’s civil service.

The suspended officials include 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries. The announcement was made in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Monday Uzor, on Monday night.

According to the statement, the suspension takes immediate effect and will last for one month, during which the affected officials will forfeit their salaries and be barred from endorsing any government documents.

The statement further directed all suspended commissioners to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries, while stressing the administration’s expectation of high standards of conduct and commitment from public servants.

Governor Nwifuru, through his spokesperson, reiterated that discipline remains a cornerstone of his government, and that any act of negligence or disregard for official duties would not be tolerated.
