Ede, Adeleke’s home town erupts in jubilation

…Osun now on the right path to progress, says governor-elect

There was wild jubilation at Ede, the country home of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Sunday immediately the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner of the July 16 governorship election in the state.

Youths who were in a joyous mood left the INEC collation centre immediately after INEC declared Adeleke, winner in a road show to Ede.

Residents who also joined in the celebration stood by the road side shouting the slogan of the PDP candidate.

People trouped out in areas like Owode-Ede, Adetoro Street, Oja Oba, Seventh Day Adventist road among other locations in Ede.

The street leading to the Adeleke’s residence was filled with people both old and young, male and female singing victory song on the emergence of their son as the governor-elect.

Residents of Osogbo were not left out in the celebration as different people gathered in different locations celebrating his victory.

Our correspondent sighted some people in large number at a beer parlour around Fagbewesa in Osogbo.

The governor-elect in his acceptance speech, dedicated his victory to his late brother, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke and every indigene of the State, and to all his supporters and friends.

He stated that the state has turned a new page and launched a landmark path for progress and prosperity.

His words: “I give praise and adoration to Almighty. I praise the courage and determination of the good people of Osun State.

“I commend men and women of goodwill, the young and the old. I am overwhelmed by your love and support. Our state has turned a new page. We have launched a landmark path for progress and prosperity of our people.

“It is therefore with strong faith in God and trust in our people that I accept my election as the Governor of Osun state. I pledge my total commitment to the best interest of the state and her people.”

Also reacting to Adeleke’s victory, the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, said his feelings for Adeleke’s victory could not be expressed in words.

Oba Lawal, while speaking with newsmen in his palace in Ede, commended the people of the state for their support for the governor-elect.

“My feelings cannot be expressed because it happened so sudden but we thank God for the victory. I am happy because our son is now the governor,” he said.
