Edo APC warns against planned PDP protest, calls for unity

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over an alleged plan by agents of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to stage protests following the outcome of the recently concluded Edo State election.
According to a press release signed by Prince Kassim Afegbua, Director of Media for the APC Campaign Council, PDP members have been reportedly directed to gather at the Ring Road and Museum Ground to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the election results.
While acknowledging the right of citizens to protest, Afegbua cautioned that any attempt to disrupt public order would be met with the full force of the law. “It is their right to protest publicly, but they should understand that the law will take its full course if Governor Obaseki resorts to any actions that could endanger Edo State,” the statement read.
The APC also urged its supporters to remain calm and magnanimous in victory, recognizing the emotional toll that defeat might be taking on the opposition. The party encouraged empathy and urged its members to avoid provoking unnecessary tensions.
“We celebrate our sweet electoral victory, but as Edo people, we share in the aspirations of all, including PDP members and other political parties. Senator Monday Okpebholo will be Governor for all, promoting unity and creating opportunities for everyone to pursue their legitimate aspirations,” Afegbua said.
He further advised residents to steer clear of trouble and avoid actions that could damage the state’s collective future.
“Edo is our home; let us work together to build it, not destroy it,” the statement concluded.
