Edo: Confusion as Lamidi Apapa presents another LP gov’ship candidate to INEC

The camp of the Labour Party in Edo State is currently in a state of confusion following the emergence of two candidates for the September 21 gubernatorial election.
The Alhaji Lamidi Apapa-led faction reportedly produced Anderson Asemota as the party governorship candidate after Olumide Akpata emerged as a governorship candidate in the Barrister Julius Abure-led faction primary election.
Indications emerged that the Lamidi Apapa faction had thrown a spanner in the works for the Abure-led side when a letter with the signatures of Alhaji Lamidi Apapa as the acting National Chairman and Alhaji Saleh Lawan as the acting National Secretary, surfaced across various social media platforms,
In the letter dated February 22, 2024, addressed to the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, the Apapa-led faction submitted the names of Anderson Asemota as the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Edo State, with Monday Mawah as his running mate.
According to the letter, the duo were elected at a primary election held in Benin on February 22, 2024.
Confirming the development, the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Alhaji Lamidi Apapa, told newsmen: “Yes, it is true. The letter is from us.”
