Edo govt trains 3,200 teachers due for promotion, reaffirms commitment to welfare

The Edo State Government has begun training more than 3,200 teachers across the state who are due for promotion.
The exercise, held at Idia College, brought together about 2,200 teachers from the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and 1,000 from the Edo State Senior Secondary Education Board (SSEB) and the Edo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (BTVET).
Addressing participants, the Head of Service congratulated the beneficiaries and conveyed Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to the welfare of civil servants, assuring that all entitlements would be paid promptly.

He said the governor’s recent recognition as Governor of the Year in Education highlights his administration’s focus on improving the sector and prioritising teachers’ welfare.
“It is important that every teacher is promoted as and when due. That is why this exercise is taking place today,” he stated.
Declaring the training open, Commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu, described the governor as education-focused and committed to ensuring access to quality learning, especially for the less privileged.

He stressed that while the government continues to build conducive learning environments, teachers must also be well equipped and motivated, noting that “a building without a teacher is an effort in futility.”
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Joy Enadeghe thanked the governor for his zero tolerance for promotion arrears and commended the administration’s efforts to strengthen the education sector and guarantee quality education for every Edo child.
