Nigeria signs 3 million tonnes per annum Kebbi cement plant deal, boosts jobs, export

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has described MSM Cement Ltd’s new Kebbi Cement Plant as a significant boost to Nigeria’s industrialization and job creation agenda.
Speaking at the signing ceremony for the 3-million-tonne-per-annum facility, Edun emphasized the project’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic vision, highlighting its role in driving private-sector investment, fostering economic stability, and reducing poverty.
Strategically located near Nigeria’s border, the plant is expected to enhance export potential under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). It is projected to create 20,000 direct and 25,000 indirect jobs, providing employment opportunities, particularly for youth and women.
Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, hailed the project as a historic milestone that will transform the state’s economy.
He commended the federal government’s commitment to infrastructure development, noting that the cement plant would attract further investments to the region.
Also present at the event were the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, and the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, among other dignitaries.
With the signing completed, groundbreaking and construction are set to commence, marking a crucial step in Nigeria’s push for industrial expansion and regional trade growth.
