Edun says FG reforms driving private-sector growth, highlights Imo’s investment potential

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has stated that the federal government’s economic reforms are opening up stronger opportunities for private-sector growth across the country.
Speaking on Thursday at the Imo State Economic Summit 2025, Edun praised Governor Hope Uzodimma for the state’s ongoing road upgrades and plans for 24-hour electricity supply, noting that Imo is positioning itself as an investment-ready destination. He disclosed that recent power-sector liberalisation now allows states and private players to generate and distribute electricity, easing constraints for industries and technology firms.
Edun outlined emerging opportunities in light manufacturing, agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, packaging, and building materials, stressing Imo’s strategic access to major regional markets.
On the national economy, he stated that Nigeria is currently growing at about 4 percent — double the previous rate — driven largely by industry and agriculture. According to him, fiscal reforms have doubled allocations to states, expanding local markets and creating more space for private investment. He added that inflation is declining, improving household purchasing power and strengthening consumer demand.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive growth through targeted social support and announced the forthcoming launch of a national mass savings plan aimed at mobilising investment from citizens and businesses.
Edun said Nigeria is moving “from latent potential to rising opportunity” and called for stronger collaboration among federal, state and private-sector stakeholders to accelerate sustainable development.
With Imo’s improving infrastructure, strategic location and investment-friendly policies, he noted, the state is well placed to become a major economic hub, as the federal government continues to invite investors to explore opportunities across the country.
