EFCC arrests, to sanction officer who leaked Obiano’s detention video

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says the officer who leaked the video of former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has been apprehended.

The commission in a statement by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said the erring officer was nabbed after a discreet investigation was conducted.

According to him the apprehended officer is “being subjected to appropriate disciplinary action”.

“The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been drawn to a trending video showing the former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, in the custody of the commission.

“The commission wishes to distance itself from the said video which is completely at variance with the established Standard Operating Procedure of the EFCC.

“A discreet investigation ordered upon discovery of the leak has revealed the errant officer behind the odious act and he is currently being subjected to appropriate disciplinary action,” he said.

A video of Obiano in EFCC detention surfaced online on Sunday.

In the video, the former Anambra governor was seen talking to an unidentified person while drinking water.

Meanwhile EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa said former governor Obiano was still in the EFCC detention because he was yet to meet his bail conditions.

Bawa disclosed this to journalist at the 5th Annual General Assembly (AGA) meeting of the Network of National Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA) in Abuja on Monday.

“He has been granted bail and we are waiting for him to perfect the bail conditions and everything is going well,” Bawa said.
