EFCC Chairman urges youths to leverage fashion industry for economic growth

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has encouraged Nigerian youths to embrace opportunities within the booming fashion and design industry, highlighting its potential to drive economic growth and promote Nigeria’s image positively.

Speaking at the African Fashion Festival Master Class in Abuja, Olukoyede, represented by Aisha Mohammed, Head of the EFCC’s Enlightenment and Re-orientation Unit, urged young Nigerians to focus on entrepreneurship rather than illicit activities that tarnish the country’s reputation.

At the event, Mohammed emphasized the EFCC’s commitment to supporting youths in their entrepreneurial pursuits, especially those venturing into creative sectors like fashion.

“Be good brand ambassadors for Nigeria,” she stated, urging the audience to avoid internet fraud, drug trafficking, and other financial crimes. “Wherever you go, you represent a community, your parents, and your country. Nigeria is a great country, and we want its youth to reflect that greatness.”

Mohammed also stressed that the fight against corruption is a shared responsibility. “The EFCC cannot do it alone,” she said. “We are encouraging and supporting young people to be entrepreneurs. Engaging in positive and creative activities is essential for personal and national development.”

In response to the growing trend of Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad, Mohammed encouraged youths to work toward building a better Nigeria. “We have to make Nigeria a better place together. Not everyone can leave. Even if we do, we will always return to our roots, to our families and relatives.”

The event also featured prominent entrepreneurs who shared their journeys and motivated the youth to remain focused and patriotic.

Among the speakers were Adewale Aladejana, CEO of Sapphire Scents; Oluwatoyin Okeowo, a professional pattern-maker and fashion designer; Oluwaseyi Perez-Folayan, CEO of Bezaleel; and Amb. Phil Roberts, Founder of the Tourism Volunteer Network and musician. Their stories underscored the importance of dedication, passion, and resilience in the entrepreneurial world.
