EFCC invites Okoya’s sons over alleged Naira abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Raheem and Wahab Okoya, sons of billionaire industrialist Chief Razaq Akanni Okoya, for questioning over alleged abuse of the Nigerian Naira.
In an invitation signed by Michael Wetkas, the Acting Director of the Lagos Directorate of the EFCC, the brothers were directed to appear at the commission’s office located at 15A Awolowo Road, Lagos, on Monday, January 13, by 10:00 a.m.
The summons follows public backlash over a viral video showing the brothers appearing to throw Naira notes into the air while a police officer held stacks of cash.
The Nigerian Police Force acted swiftly by summoning and subsequently detaining the officer featured in the video alongside the Okoya brothers.
In an apparent show of remorse, Raheem Okoya issued an apology via X (formerly Twitter), describing his actions in the viral video as naive and unintentional.
