EFCC summons Betta Edu for probe after suspension

Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has been summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, according to Daily Trust.

The EFCC’s invitation came shortly after President Bola Tinubu suspended Edu from office through his media aide, Ajuri Ngelale.

A source from the EFCC told reporters that the suspension was based on the commission’s recommendation, which was meant to facilitate the investigation ordered by the President.

The source added that the EFCC acted swiftly as soon as the President directed a comprehensive probe into the alleged diversion of N585.189 million grant for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun and Lagos states into a personal account.
