EFCC urges youth to fight against corruption

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has urged Nigerian youths to actively join the fight against corruption, economic, and financial crimes.
Olukoyede, represented by Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Nwanyinma Okeanu, gave the charge while addressing students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja Centre, during their study tour of the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
He expressed concern over the deep-rooted nature of corruption in Nigeria and warned the students to avoid being entangled in fraudulent activities. “Take the bull by the horns and join the fight against corruption. Spread the message to your schoolmates, parents, and community. Together, we can save our nation,” he said.

Head of Public Interface at the EFCC, Tony Orilade, educated the students on the agency’s structure and its preventive and enforcement roles. He cautioned them about online fraud and advised them to always verify the identity of people they interact with, especially on the internet.
Similarly, Evelyn Achudume from the EFCC’s ICT Unit spoke about cybercrime and its global impact, revealing that cyberattacks lead to an annual financial loss of $8 trillion globally. She advised the students to leverage the digital space for legitimate income and personal development.
Achudume emphasized that young people should equip themselves with digital skills, be aware of emerging cyber threats, and use technology responsibly to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.

The Head of Enlightenment and Reorientation, Aisha Mohammed, also explained that the EFCC’s work goes beyond arrests to include public education. She encouraged the students to become anti-corruption ambassadors, stressing that everyone has a role to play in safeguarding the country’s future.
The visiting students commended the EFCC for the enlightening session and pledged to spread the anti-corruption message in their schools, homes, and communities.
