EFCC: Yahaya Bello’s dollars and Onokpasa’s life! by Tunde Nasiru

Nothing other than unbridled greed spurred by monstrous poverty could have motivated the uncharitable write-up by one Jesutega Onokpasa on the latest theatrics of former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State; a fugitive from law, in his hide and seek game with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Onokpasa, obviously a revisionist, supposedly a lawyer, threw caution into the wind while defending his principal and his bred and butter as he described EFCC in manners that was not expected of someone who passed through the law school or claims to be a lawyer.

Onokpasa even signed the hatchet-man’s write-up as a name dropper. It does not take intense scrutiny to know that his wishy-washy statement could not have come from the stable of Tinubu Media Support Group, an organisation from which he has been ignominiously excused. Why can’t the hack-writer use his own father’s name.

The writer informed in the bile-filled article that: “I just recently underwent a medical procedure but rushed to the EFCC headquarters this morning when I heard GYB had reported himself to the commission”. In the same article, he said on the same day: “The time is 10pm, Wednesday, 18, September, 2024 and I am driving to the Kogi State Government Lodge in Asokoro Abuja, right now.”

The poser is: Why is Yahaya Bello’s money more important that the health of Onokpasa who just had a surgery? What shall this revisionist gain if he gets all the dollars from Yahaya Bello and loses his life?!

Any lawyer anywhere in the world is first expected to defend even the lightest threat to the rule of law. Barrister Onokpasa who has been defending Bello and parading himself as a social commentator, obviously saw in the latest drama from Bello, another opportunity to resume the dollar-collection. Not a word as he uttered to urge his side-hustle client to obey the law.

The virulent attacks on EFCC speaks volume of the present state of mind of Onokpasa, though he did not disclose what he was operated on.

As long as fugitive continue to dodge the laws of the land, creates drama to hoodwink the media and seek underserved public sympathy instead of presenting himself for prosecution, he and his Onokpasas, like Fela sang: “Dem go hear pasapasa”
