Super Eagles Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen has excused first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali from Monday’s final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against the Amavubi of Rwanda in Uyo, following the bereavement of his father.
Team Administrator Dayo Enebi Achor confirmed the development, stating, “He has been excused from the game. However, the player will come to watch the match and cheer his teammates on.”
Nwabali announced on Friday via his social media that his father, Godspower Onyekam Abali, also known as Chief Onyeogazrim I of Okwuzi, had passed away at the age of 67. The late Chief Abali was a former chief surveyor.
With Nwabali absent, the contest for the number one jersey in Monday’s clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium will now be between Italy-based Maduka Okoye and Ethiopia-based Amas Obasogie.
