Eguavoen hopes to return as Eagles coach

Austin Eguavoen says he hopes to return some day to coach the Super Eagles again.
The 56-year-old stepped down as Eagles coach after failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
After playing a goalless draw against Ghana in Kumasi in the World Cup playoffs, the Eagles drew 1-1 in the second leg at the Moshood Abiola Stadium last Tuesday, missing out of the World Cup on away goals rule.
He had also led the Eagles to a second round exit at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon earlier in the year.
Speaking on SuperSports’ program, Monday Night Football, Eguaveon said he remained one of the good coaches in Nigeria and wont reject any opportunity to lead the Eagles again.
“If there is still an opportunity for me, I will want to coach the Eagles again, but not at this moment, maybe later,” Eguavoen said.
“If I’m called upon to lead the team again, I will definitely take up the job. I’m still one of the good coaches in the country. I can still prove a point it’s just a matter of time.
“No regrets taking up the job. When you are called to serve the nation I could not refuse them.”
The Edo-born coach had been drafted to the Eagles to replace Franco-German coach Gernot Rohr who was relieved of his duties after the World Cup qualifiers.
