The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has urged residents to properly bag and dispose of their waste through their PSP operators during and after the Eid-El-Fitr celebrations.
Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, stated that the agency had implemented adequate measures to ensure a clean and waste-free environment throughout the festivities.
He said, “As we mark this year’s Eid-El-Fitr, it is essential to celebrate in an environmentally friendly manner. For this reason, we have put measures in place to maintain cleanliness across the metropolis during and after this period.”
Reaffirming LAWMA’s commitment to combating improper waste disposal, Gbadegesin urged residents to engage only designated PSP operators and avoid patronizing cart pushers, whose activities hinder the agency’s waste management efforts.
He emphasized that PSP operators would work throughout the celebration, regardless of their regular schedules, while trash bags would be distributed through waste collectors to facilitate proper waste disposal.
He also cautioned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians, canals, and uncompleted buildings, assuring residents that LAWMA would provide backup services in areas with service gaps.
“I urge residents to avoid improper waste disposal at unauthorized locations such as road medians, canals, and uncompleted buildings. We assure Lagosians that we will provide backup services where necessary to ensure proper sanitation across the city,” he stated.
Gbadegesin further appealed to motorists to drive cautiously to safeguard the lives of sanitation workers who will be active on major roads during the festive period.
