Eight arrested for murder, kidnapping in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested eight suspected members of a criminal gang over alleged involvement in conspiracy, murder, kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abutu Sunday, disclosed this in a statement obtained by WESTERN POST on Sunday, noting that the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad.

Those arrested include Sule Dairu, 25; Ali Bello, 25; Mohammodu Hammed, 21; Ali Salihu Medoki, 25; Ori Gambo, also known as Gambo Alhaji, 20; Shaibu Umaru, also known as Gahi, 45; Ibrahim Abdullahi, also known as Rusku, 27; and Suberu Lawal, 40. They were said to have killed two victims and abducted three others in Odo Ayedun-Ekiti.

According to the statement, investigations revealed that the gang, numbering about 10, stormed Isah Camp in the community on May 7, 2025, around 10pm, where they shot dead one Mohammodu Ibrahim and abducted four people.

According to the command, the suspects confessed during interrogation and detailed their individual roles in the crime. Items belonging to the victims, including a Tecno phone, clothing materials and slippers, were recovered from them.

Sunday noted that the suspects have already been charged in court and remanded at the Correctional Service Centre.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, assured that the command would not relent in tackling violent crimes and urged residents to remain security conscious.
