Eight people lost their lives and four others were injured following a devastating crash on Tuesday along the Oyo-Ogbomosho Expressway near Emmanuel Alayande University of Education in Oyo State.

The accident involved 19 passengers, with the deceased currently at Oyo State General Hospital morgue, while authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision.

The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mary Alo, confirmed the accident, stating that a total of 19 people were involved. She added that the bodies of the deceased are currently at the hospital morgue.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. Early reports suggest the incident involved an 18-passenger bus that collided with a stationary trailer, leading to a fire outbreak. The crash has been attributed to overspeeding and the careless parking of heavy trucks along the highway.

In separate reactions following the incident, the FRSC and emergency response teams urged road users to adhere to safety rules to prevent further tragedies, especially during the ember months when traffic incidents tend to increase.
