By Boye Oyeyemi, Ado-Ekiti –
Former Nigerian Ambassador to Canada, Dare Bejide, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the forthcoming election in Ekiti State.
Bejide polled 15,466 votes to defeat four other aspirants, including former Deputy Governor Prof. Olusola Eleka, who came second with 12,003 votes. Barrister Femi Adegbite scored 9,141 votes, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose got 2,865, while Apostle Ayodele Adesua polled 135 votes.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the ADC Primary Election Committee, Senator Patricia Naomi Akwashiki, said the committee stepped down results from Ilejemeje and Oye Local Government Areas and cancelled that of Emure over irregularities.
She commended the peaceful conduct of the primary across the 16 local government areas of the state and praised members for their massive turnout.
However, she condemned the actions of some members who attempted to disrupt the process at the collation centre, urging them to exercise restraint.
Akwashiki thanked the aspirants for their commitment to the party and advised those with grievances to approach the Appeal Committee established to address complaints.
She also appreciated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the media for their cooperation during the exercise.
