Ekiti Airport denies role in cancelled flight of actress Bolaji Ogunmola

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The management of Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport has denied responsibility for the recent flight cancellation involving Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola and United Nigeria Airlines.

The airport authority said the disruption was purely an operational issue on the part of the airline and had no link to airport infrastructure or management.

In a statement on Friday by the airport’s Commercial Officer, Olawale Odoko, the management explained that public concerns arose from the temporary cancellation or delay of United Nigeria Airlines’ flights into Ekiti State.

It noted that the misunderstanding stemmed from a failure to distinguish between the responsibilities of airline operators and airport managers.

“Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport is an airport operator, not an airline. Our duty is to provide the infrastructure that enables airlines to operate safely,” the statement read.

The airport disclosed that United Nigeria Airlines, currently the only commercial carrier operating scheduled flights into Ekiti, informed it that the disruption was due to operational or technical challenges.

It stressed that once an airline declares such issues, passenger safety must take priority, with regulatory oversight resting with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

The management added that the issue had been resolved, confirming that the airport recorded two flights the previous day, with another scheduled, while assuring the public that Ekiti Airport remains fully operational.
