A Magistrate’s Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has ordered the remand of two men accused of breaking into a property and stealing household items valued at N145,000.
The defendants, Mohammed Zaharadeen, 21, and Musa Hudu Iman, 20, were brought before the court over allegations of burglary and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Aina Ayodeji, told the court that the defendants were reasonably suspected of committing the offences. He subsequently sought an order for their remand in a correctional facility.
Ayodeji alleged that the stolen items belonged to Olagunju Babatunde and included a DVD player, two 3kg gas cylinders, two stabilisers, three ceiling fans and a VHS player.
He said the alleged offences contravened Sections 421, 322(c) and 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. The prosecutor urged the court to grant his ex parte application for the defendants’ remand.
Meanwhile, the defendants’ pleas were not taken during the proceedings. They were represented by their counsel, Timi Omotosho.
In his ruling, the magistrate, Mr Olatomiwa Daramola, ordered that the defendants be remanded pending the issuance of legal advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The court adjourned the case until November 9, 2026, for further proceedings.
