Ekiti deputy governor urges workers to shun mistrust, betrayal

By Boye Oyeyemi –

Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye, has urged political office holders and civil servants to avoid mistrust and betrayal, warning that such divisions could weaken governance and slow the delivery of government programmes.

She spoke on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti at a valedictory service organised for the Permanent Secretary in her office, Mr Abayomi Opeyemi, who retired after 35 years of service in the civil service.

Afuye commended Ekiti workers for their cooperation with the political leadership, noting that the synergy had helped the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to advance its six-point development agenda.

She described Opeyemi as a disciplined and transparent officer whose administrative skills contributed significantly to achievements recorded in land matters and chieftaincy administration.

She said: “By divine providence, I was lucky to have worked with a man with vast knowledge of the job. The political and working classes must work together. There should be no betrayal or mistrust, because these will only affect the efficiency of the service.”

The deputy governor also highlighted Opeyemi’s role in resolving boundary, land and chieftaincy disputes, describing his contributions as vital to restoring peace in crisis-prone communities.

Other dignitaries, including the former Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Ayodeji Daramola; the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun; and the Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, praised the retiree’s diligence, integrity and service record.

In his remarks, Opeyemi thanked Governor Oyebanji and Afuye for the opportunity to serve, pledging to continue supporting the development of Ekiti State even after his retirement from public service.
