Ekiti: Fayemi backs Oyebanji for second term

….says no automatic ticket for lawmakers

A former governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has thrown his weight behind the second term bid of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

Fayemi also said there will be no automatic return ticket for National and State Assembly members in the state in 2027.

Speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting in his Isan Ekiti hometown, the former governor said federal and state lawmakers should go back home and work for Oyebanji’s second-term bid as a form of continuous assessment.

He pointed out that Oyebanji had performed well, even in the area of appointments, saying, “Let me say that in politics, you can’t finish the work; let us support and continue to work for our man who is doing well as a governor, a very capable man for the job, of which we know if we support him again, Ekiti people will accept him.”

Fayemi, who stated that leaders of the party were behind Oyebanji, added, “If those in the National and State Assemblies want to get the same treatment we leaders are giving the governor, they should go and work at home. If leaders in their districts and constituencies tell us they are capable and worthy, we will make decisions for them”.

“But let me make it clear here and ask you to inform those who are not here that there is nothing like an automatic ticket for our National and State Assembly members. There is nothing like that. I am speaking on behalf of former governor Niyi Adebayo – both of us are the leaders in the APC.

“Let the lawmakers go back home and work for Oyebanji, and that will count as continuous assessment. I hope they will pass the test,” the former governor said.
