Ekiti Govt approves N2bn for Oluyemi Kayode Stadium renovation

The Ekiti State Government, under Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has approved N2,002,062,725.83 for the construction of a standard synthetic turf football pitch and the comprehensive renovation of Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti.

This initiative aligns with the administration’s vision to leverage sports for talent discovery, youth empowerment, and economic growth while upgrading the state’s sporting infrastructure to global standards.

The renovation will transform the stadium into a world-class facility, addressing unemployment, crime, and poverty through sports. Key upgrades include a synthetic turf football pitch, renovated administrative block, refurbished athletics tracks, improved seating terraces, spectator stands with canopies, and a VIP stand.

Additional enhancements involve pitch accessories, office renovations, and perimeter fencing.

The contract was awarded to United Logistics Construzione Soluzione Limited via Direct Procurement and is expected to be completed in three months. The same company will also handle the pitch renovation, ensuring seamless execution.

Addressing speculation, a state official clarified:
“There has been a misconception that the government is spending N7 billion on the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium renovation. The total approved amount for all listed works—including the administrative building, synthetic football pitch, and tartan tracks—is N2,002,062,725.83.”

Dr. (Mrs.) Olusola Osetoba, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Sports Development, praised Governor Oyebanji for fulfilling the long-standing aspirations of sports-loving Ekiti indigenes.

This investment underscores the administration’s commitment to making sports a sustainable career path for Ekiti youths, fostering talent, and positioning the state as a hub for competitive sporting events.
