Ekiti hails drop in food prices, credits Oyebanji’s agric policy

The Ekiti State Government has welcomed the August 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), describing it as evidence of the success of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s agricultural initiatives.

In a statement Wednesday, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Olayinka Oyebode, said the report showed that food prices in the state moderated significantly, with the food index dropping by 6.8 per cent month-on-month and annual food inflation standing at 16.8 per cent, below the national average.

He attributed the improvement to the administration’s massive investment in agriculture, youth participation, and strategic partnerships with the private sector.

The statement added that Ounje Ekiti, an initiative of Ilu Eye Trading Company, also helped boost food supply and reduce costs.

However, Oyebode noted that the NBS report also placed Ekiti as the state with the highest overall inflation rate for the month at 28.2 per cent, driven largely by non-food categories such as housing, transportation, electricity and services.

He assured that government interventions in road infrastructure, community electrification and ease of doing business reforms would soon help to moderate these costs.

“Ekiti State will continue to reinforce its engagement with private and public institutions and adopt a data-driven approach to improving the lives of its people,” he added.
