Ekiti man arraigned over alleged housebreaking, property damage

A 32-year-old man, Salami Moshood, was on Friday arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado-Ekiti over alleged housebreaking and malicious damage to property.

The defendant was accused of breaking into a residential building and an office at D2 Blue House, Basiri, Ado-Ekiti, in the early hours of July 1, 2026, with intent to commit a felony.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that Moshood allegedly forced his way into the residence of one Olusola Aderemi and damaged two windows valued at N20,000, as well as a glass entrance door and an office window worth N35,000.

Adeniyi further alleged that the defendant also broke into the office of Lawrence Adetunji Fasanmi on the same day and at the same location.

The prosecutor also disclosed that Moshood allegedly smashed the glass windows and windscreen of a Mazda 323F car valued at N265,000 belonging to Abiodun Rotimi, and also damaged the glass windows and windscreen of a Renault Sienna vehicle valued at N80,000, owned by Olasunkanmi Babalola.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offences contravened Sections 322(a)(c), 324(1)(2) and 354(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

In the accused’s defence, his counsel, E.O. Olowolafe, urged the court to grant his him bail, assuring the court that he would not abscond during the trial.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until July 31, 2026, for hearing.
