Ekiti PDP denies mobilising for Makinde, cites betrayal

The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has denied reports that it is mobilising support for the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party also rejected claims that it was working with the Allied Peoples Movement to build grassroots support for Makinde in the state.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, the state PDP chairman, Lanre Omolase, described the report as false and unauthorised, saying it did not emanate from the recognised leadership of the party.

Omolase said the publication was aimed at creating confusion over the party’s position and stressed that no mobilisation programme for Makinde had been approved or launched by the Ekiti PDP.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Ekiti State PDP, under my leadership, hereby distances itself completely from both the Allied Peoples Movement and any purported presidential mobilisation project for Governor Seyi Makinde,” he said.

The chairman further declared that the Ekiti PDP would not support Makinde, accusing the Oyo governor of betrayal and describing his political conduct as unacceptable to the state chapter.

He urged party members and the public to disregard statements purportedly issued on behalf of the Ekiti PDP without the approval of its recognised leadership.

Omolase also appealed to media organisations to verify political claims before attributing them to the party, saying the Ekiti PDP remained committed to discipline, due process and authorised communication ahead of the 2027 elections.
