Ekiti PDP youths challenge Faseyi, Ogunsakin over Oluyede criticism

By Boye Oyeyemi
Youths of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State have challenged Senator Duro Faseyi, Deji Ogunsakin and other party leaders criticising the party’s 2026 governorship candidate, Dr. Olumayokun Oluyede, to publish their polling-unit results and account for their performance in the June 20 governorship election.
The youths said the politicians should demonstrate the votes they personally delivered before questioning Oluyede’s commitment to the party or his financial contribution to its campaign.
In a statement signed by Prince Biodun Afolabi, the group also demanded an account of funds allegedly released for mobilisation, party agents and canvassers, urging those involved to explain how the resources were utilised.
They said political titles and past positions were not substitutes for electoral results, adding that polling-unit figures remained the clearest measure of a politician’s grassroots influence and mobilisation capacity.
The youths particularly questioned Ogunsakin’s criticism of loyalty, citing his previous political association with former Governor Ayodele Fayose and his role as running mate to the PDP governorship candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, in the 2018 election.
However, the group exempted Hon. Segun Adekola from its criticism, describing him as a politician who still commands considerable grassroots respect and identifiable electoral influence among his constituents.
The youths also cautioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other PDP leaders against relying on politicians who make claims about their electoral strength without verifiable results.
They urged PDP stakeholders to end the blame game and focus on rebuilding the party’s grassroots structures, reconciling members and developing strategies to regain voters’ confidence ahead of future elections.
