The Ekiti State Police Command has debunked a viral video alleging that bandits were planning attacks on Ekiti State University (EKSU) and the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), describing the claim as false and designed to cause unnecessary panic.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, said a thorough investigation revealed that the footage was artificially generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
According to the Command, the video was part of a fabricated rumour aimed at instilling fear among residents.
Following its circulation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, ordered the deployment of additional operatives to strategic locations, including border communities, schools, worship centres and other vulnerable points across the state.
The Command urged residents to remain calm, assuring that security agencies are fully prepared to protect lives and property.
CP Eribo also appealed to the public to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and preventing criminal activities throughout Ekiti State.
