Ekiti signs agreement for air traffic services at Airport
To ensure the successful launch of the newly established Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Airport in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). The agreement, signed at NAMA’s headquarters in Lagos, will enable the deployment of key NAMA professionals to the airport, representing a crucial step towards making the airport operational.
In his opening remarks, NAMA’s Managing Director, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, represented by the Director of Legal Services and Company Secretary, Mrs. Isemiuhonmon Rita Egbadon, emphasized the MoU’s significance as a mutual commitment to excellence, outlining shared responsibilities and standards for air traffic control services. Engr. Umar emphasized that the MoU embodies action, cooperation, and a shared vision to maintain the highest standards of quality and performance in aviation.
Representing the Ekiti State Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Habibat Adubiaro, described the agreement as a pivotal moment for Ekiti State, enhancing the safety, efficiency, and reliability of its airspace management. Dr. Adubiaro expressed optimism that the airport would boost tourism, facilitate smoother air travel, and significantly contribute to economic growth, job creation, and improved connectivity for the people of Ekiti State.
The Ekiti State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kehinde Ajobiewe, praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his commitment to the timely commencement of the airport’s commercial operations, noting that the MoU signing was a key step toward achieving full certification.
Other notable attendees at the signing ceremony included AVM Sunday Makinde (rtd), the Governor’s Technical Adviser on Airport Projects, and Mr. Abulola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation.
