The Ekiti State Government has expressed satisfaction for emerging top 10 in the list of performing states according to the 2025 Governance Accountability and Transparency Index released by the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers Nigeria.

The report, which was presented in Abuja, evaluated the performance of all 36 states across several governance indicators, including public access to information, budget openness, audit processes, anti-corruption measures, procurement transparency, government responsiveness and media freedom.

According to the report, Ekiti improved its score from 86.3 points in the 2024 edition to 89.6 points in 2025, consolidating its stand among states recognised for promoting transparency and responsible governance.

Reacting to the feat, the State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said the recognition reflects the administration’s dedication to transparency, accountability and citizen participation in governance, noting that the assessment affirmed the various reforms being implemented by the government to strengthen openness in public administration.

He further disclosed that Ekiti’s performance in the ranking demonstrated that the state’s commitment to responsible governance was being acknowledged by independent organisations, while adding that the recognition is consistent with earlier evaluations carried out by civic groups monitoring governance practices in Nigeria, including BudgIT Foundation 2025.

Olatunbosun therefore commended the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers Nigeria for introducing the index, describing it as a credible initiative that promotes accountability and encourages better governance among states, amid reaffirming that the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji would continue to prioritise transparent governance, prudent financial management and policies that support the welfare of residents.
